WHAT ABOUT LOVE?Hes got everything hes ever wanted but nobody to share it with. He leads a good life but there is an emptiness around him that hurts and shades everything. Hes actually very frustrated that love is absent in his life and he appears ready to make a commitment if the right woman comes along. Hes almost mocking his own success because of the accompanying loneliness and hes tired of it and longs for the love and companionship of a good woman. Something is missing.
UNDER THE GUNShes afraid of her feelings right now. She feels trapped. She doesnt trust herself and is asking for help. She feels a sense of hopelessness with her situation. Shes running out of time. Shes drawn to him but she thinks hes asking too much of her. Shes running from it all, not wanting to face it. Its as if shes been through it before and was hurt. In a sense she longs for resolution ... she also wants to love someone...her answer may lie there. To her, its a risk to embrace him and all he has to offer, but its also a risk to ignore him and miss the love and experiences that may be waiting. She seems ready to make her move toward him ... shes also lonely.
SHE SAID TO MEHe is over-the-top in love with her now. Theyre enjoying a relationship together but he, at this point, is more head-over-heels than she. Hes fallen for her femininity, sensuousness and sexy ways. She has him in the palm of her hand. Its the dating, infatuation, butterflies, cant-wait-to-see-you time. Shes his fantasy come true and he cant believe how awesome she is. Hell do anything for her and he fantasizes about life with her. Its a very exciting time for him in the relationship.
YOUVE GOT NO TIMEShes pulled back...once again reluctant to embrace all that he has to offer ... and hes upset about it. Hes almost taunting her and pulling that I-know-whats-better-for-you stand. He doesnt get why she doesnt see it. Hes there for her...but where is she? What is it that she really wants? She still seems hesitant to pursue this relationship. So time goes on, and he waits and waits for her to come around. Theres something that makes him feel she will ultimately make the commitment. He does warn her, however, that he may not be able to wait forever. Hes very serious now about her and is panicking a bit that she may remain out of his grasp.
CROSS THAT LINEShe spells out exactly what she wants from him. She literally tells him whats been on her mind and what shes been thinking and shes been thinking about what she wants out of this relationship. She wants him to know how giving she can be ... she describes the love she has inside just bursting to spill out ... a love for him. She lets him know, if hes willing to do these things then he can have her. She draws the line he has to cross to get her and its much deeper and farther than he expected. She feels hes still reluctant to cross it, he still is unsure ... he needs to show her that hes worthy of all the love she wants to give him ... she needs to feel she can be someone elses dream...she could be his dream. She almost dares him to take her.
WHAT I BELIEVETime has passed, and theyve been married for years, and their love has grown to the highest of heights. True love prevails in both their lives. Everything is wonderful. It is a painless, love-filled time. They adore each other. They have made memories together and have grown and shared so much...happiness, pain, joy, and sorrow. There is a bond between them that is strong and silent ... the kind of bond that comes with years of being together, evolving. These are peaceful days where time just flows forward as life unfolds effortlessly for them both. He especially credits her for hanging in there and "keeping that look..." in her eye so they apparently experienced rocky waters in the past. They must have weathered them together and emerged better for the experiences.
I BE LOWUnfortunately theres something wrong in the relationship. Something has happened and it wasnt good. Theres some complaining going on here and some hint at blame. He seems to be regretting the way things turned out. Something happened to change things and everything went from feeling good to feeling bad. He almost sounds angry in a mocking sort of way ... that arms-stretched-to-the-sky sort of frustration. Hes afraid of where things are heading in the relationship. It sounds like hes been rejected and theres trouble ahead.
FAR AWAYShe is very clear that something is indeed wrong with their relationship and the relationship is, in fact, over. Something terrible must have happened to cause a great hurt ... something sad took place and it changed everything and she has decided she has to leave. She cant take the pain anymore and she is so overwhelmed by everything that happened she just has to get out...far away .. .especially from him. She feels betrayed. Her love is apparently lost now ... taken from her unable to be recaptured...but her sadness follows her everywhere and she just wants to get away from it. Its all so tragic.
RESCUEThis is his angry cant-take-the-truth response. The first drum beat is like a fist through the wall. Hes not accepting that shes leaving and feels things can still be salvaged. His head is in the sand. He has the feeling he has been misunderstood and lays blame her way. She has become inaccessible...he cant get to her. He wants her to know what hes gone through during all of this. Its been no picnic. Hes desperate to keep their love alive, but deep inside where the truth lies he knows its over and he is angry about it, but its that lashing-out desperate anger where you get the feeling he really does know the truth.
IS IT ANY WONDER?This is the saddest song on "Global" because he finally realizes, and more importantly accepts, that she has left him and it is over, and it was pretty much his fault too. He takes responsibility for the failure and admits he was difficult ... too set in his ways ... too many things had to go his way, and he caused some pain that will never be able to be forgotten, or, apparently, forgiven. You almost feel sorry for the guy. The anger is gone ... the shock is over. Now its time to try and move on .... get beyond it. Facing the truth is the start ... and the truth is shes gone.
SOME GOOD YEARSWhat a healing thing time is. This song is all about closure. Its for everything that ever had a beginning, a middle, and an end ... a career, a relationship, a business, even a life. If you need closure, this is where to find it. It seems that with time, his perspective improved and everything looked better ... especially memories...looking back. As time passed, he started dwelling more on the good memories he had with her ... even though things hadnt work out the way he had dreamed they would. It must be human nature to naturally focus on the positive rather than the negative especially the further you get from an experience because thats what happened to him. So in later years, he only dwelled on what was good about their relationship and became grateful for everything that happened and appreciated what he learned along the way. The message is that the good shines through ... so let it.
